ATTENDANCE
Please also review the Attendance Policy before submitting. Our official Attendance policy is to miss no meetings, but we have this policy because we know life comes up.
Please note: “On time” means 10 minutes early. Please be ready to go by the start time of your meeting or rehearsal.
COMMUNICATION AND WORK
Communication through email is a huge part of BoogieManja. If you don’t check your email at least once a day, this is not the right program for you.
Boogiemanja is not for everyone.
BoogieManja is a huge commitment. And it should be your #1 comedy commitment. If you have too many commitments in life and your conflicts will cause your team to adjust their schedule too much or meet late at night to accommodate you, you should reconsider before making a commitment to BoogieManja.
LOGISTICS
REQUIRED MEETINGS:
PITCH
Writers meeting 1*
Writers meeting 2*
Writers meeting 3*
Rehearsal 1
Rehearsal 2
Rehearsal 3
TECH
SHOW
This schedule means you’ll usually be meeting twice a week with your team. Make sure you can make that commitment.
*Actors are not required to attend writers meetings unless decided by the team.
Expectations for Pitch:
Writers: Bring at least 5 pitches, you’ll be expected to write 3-4 sketches each month, and pick-up at least 1 actor pitch for the first couple of writers meetings.
Actors: Bring 3+ pitches each time. These should be characters you can play. Perform a line or two you think the character might say. Sell your pitch! Your goal is to get the writers excited about writing this character for you. Also: These pitches should not be characters you have written or performed before.
It’s okay to occasionally bring back a pitch you really love, but otherwise you should be bringing new pitches each month.
SHOWS
Fridays @ 9:30p (9:00p call time)
The PIT (Main Location)
Striker Stage
123 E. 24th Street
You will be expected to stay for the whole show. (i.e., both teams will have the same call-time and the first team will be expected to stay for the second team's show.)
Tech Rehearsal: Sunday before the show, time TBD (Usually between 12-4p)
Note: Sometimes tech times will change based on The PIT’s schedule. Be flexible! Please note: Tech is a mandatory meeting!
Commitment: Through July 2020

If you do not take on a sufficient role on the team, you will not be asked back.
DUES EXPECTATIONS
The average show runs $80-$120 in dues per person. Dues include, but are not limited to:
Director
Room Rentals
Tech
Videographer
Director Notes
Writers (not the team) are expected to pay for the props for their sketches. If you don’t want to buy props, don’t write them into your sketches.
There is a one-time fee of $25 to participate in Season 6. This will go directly to scholarships provided to your fellow Boogies.
SCHOLARSHIPS
We will be offering scholarships that will cover dues for the 2019-2020 season. These will be based on financial need . If you’d like to be considered for a scholarship, please fill out this form after you submit your general application.
DIRECTORS
For Season 7 we will assign a director to your team for the first 4 shows. Following those 4 shows your team must choose a new director from a Boogie-approved pool of directors. (If your team wants to keep your current director, you must make your case why, otherwise we think it’s beneficial to get another perspective during the season.)
Directors are employees of BoogieManja and not a part of the team. Please do not ask them to complete administrative or organizational tasks that are the responsibility of the team.
Directors function as the head writer and authority in rehearsals and should be treated as such. But, BoogieManja is also a chance for you to develop your own voice. You should try to take their notes, but if you try a note and it doesn’t work, be able to explain why. i.e. Be respectful, but also be willing to make your case and speak up for your ideas.
Please note: The director rate for BoogieManja is $25/hr.
AND FINALLY: Administrative stuff aside, we are not a theater with a reputation. We care about two things: show up and don’t make life harder on anyone else. The rest is up to you. You won't get kicked off for content or a shitty show. So take risks, push yourselves, and fail hard! We are all here to get better, find our voices, and hopefully create things we love. Basically: It's okay to suck, as long as you suck BIG.

Tips and Suggestions
If you’ve submitted before, do not submit the same reel or packet. (If you have even 1 sketch you’ve submitted before, we will not consider your packet.)
The paragraph is a deciding factor for us, why do you want to do this?
Show range!
If you send us a sketch over 4 pages we won’t read your packet.
If your reel is not 2-3 minutes we will not watch it.
If you send us an email that says, “I don’t have a reel,” we won’t open your email.
We will not download your reel or alert you that your packet only contains one sketch.
